Google Authenticator provides security to protect against password’s stealing or hacking and save multiple passwords. It is much easier to install and use. The app follows the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) procedure to provide stronger security. This 2FA has been offered on various famous websites and applications like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

2FA is a combination of two types of algorithms TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) and HOTP (HMAC-based One-Time Password). HOTP is usually known as OTP in short. Every user must follow this 2FA procedure for authentication when logging in to various services. After the provision of regular credentials, each is directed to enter a unique random code (six to eight-digit code) in their smartphones every time which is sent via text message by Google Authenticator.

Installation of Google Authenticator
  1. It could be downloaded from App Store or Google Play store. It is absolutely free of cost and can be installed on any Android device (Phone and Tablet) and Apple device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch).
  2. With your Google Account, set up Two-Factor Authentication(2FA) procedure. Afterward, Sign in to your Google Account. In navigation panel, tap Security and Login , choose 2-Step Authentication, and then scroll down to select the Authentication Application option. In the last, follow the on-screen steps.
  3. Choose your desire device, either Android or Apple (usually iPhone).
  4. Tap Google Authenticator app and open it then tap Begin Setup at bottom.
  5. In the last step, two options will be appeared, labeled as “Scan Barcode” and Manual entry.

You just have to choose one of the given options to complete the installation process. When you choose “Scan barcode” option then it takes a little longer than necessary. Download a QR scanner from the app store or play store, and point your phone at the QR code on your computer screen to check the connection between Google Authenticator and your account.

Instead, “Manual entry” simply means that Google will send you a 16-digit code to an email address. Then enter the code to complete the verification process. Make sure the “Time-based” option is switched to ON to ensure that the code you enter is consistent with the current generation of the authenticator access code.

We assure the “Time-based” option is turned ON and the code you enter corresponds to the current generation of authentication entry points. Now, each time you log into Google account you will be connected to Google Authenticator app and a new 6-digit unique random code will be shared via text message for verification purposes.

NOTE: If you stay logged in, you will not have to go through the 2-FA procedure every time you log in.
